LA Comedy Awards is a grass roots community event. LACA was conceptualized in 1997 by well known comic and television host Max Worthington. The Boston raised, L.A. native, who moved to Los Angeles that fateful year, saw the need for an independent awards show that recognized great comedic talent. By the time his cable access show called "The Big Nite Time Show with Max" began airing in early 2003, Max had built a roster of comedians that could only be rivaled by a major Hollywood talent agency. In 2009, the LA Comedy Awards will be the single biggest awards show ever held for unsigned and independent comics, with attendees and recipients both well known and lesser known. The main event will be the culmination of a monthly showcase series that will be used to select the nominees. There will be categories that cover a variety of comedic styles from one liners to sight gags. There will also be multiple Career Achievement Awards and one Lifetime Achievement Award presented to well known major Hollywood public figures. By entering this competition, you will be showing the world how serious you are about becoming a well known and respected comedian. If you are fortunate enough to win a nomination in this prestigious event, then you will receive not only the accolades that come with a participation such as this, you will also gain valuable insight, experience and exposure provided by your appearance on our red carpet at the showcase series and main event. We welcome comic entrants from around the globe.
